The most recent series of The Apprentice has got us thinking about business opportunities, and what basic skills will make you an exceptional candidate. There are many things that can help you make it in business, and many ways in which you can boost your chances. But with more people than ever trying to become the next Alan Sugar, it is fiercely competitive, and not everyone can make it.

You might think that in the cutthroat world of business you need extensive education, or complicated training, but it’s the basic building blocks which can really set you apart from the rest. It amazes me every year that most of the candidates on The Apprentice are lacking fundamental skills that are essential in most careers, and business is no different.

Creative Thinking

When you mention business, most people think of sharp suits, grey buildings, and lots of high tech lingo. But creativity is a fundamental skill, and it is something which has helped us to form the complex society we live in today. In business it is so important to be able to innovate, to think differently, and to see things from the perspective of others.
