Course Overview

This Modern Slavery course provides an in-depth understanding of the key issues surrounding modern slavery, with a focus on the UK. Modern slavery involves the recruitment, transportation, harbouring, or receipt of adults and children for exploitation. It is estimated that more than 130,000 people in the UK are victims of modern slavery. Real-life case studies will be explored to highlight the different forms of exploitation and the impact on victims.

Modern slavery takes many forms, including forced labour, debt bondage, sexual exploitation, forced marriage, and criminal exploitation. This course examines who is most vulnerable to trafficking and how victims are recruited, transported, and controlled by perpetrators. From a victim’s perspective, the course sheds light on the hidden personal and behavioural signs of modern slavery, as well as locations commonly used for exploitation. You will gain valuable knowledge on how to identify potential victims and the steps to take when reporting concerns.

The National Referral Mechanism (NRM) and its role in supporting victims will be discussed in detail. Additionally, the course explores the Modern Slavery Act 2015, analysing its impact and identifying ways in which the government can strengthen efforts to combat modern slavery. The role of small businesses in tackling modern slavery is also covered, with practical guidance on making an anti-slavery pledge and ensuring ethical practices in the workplace. Additionally, the course provides essential contact information for authorities, charities, and organisations that offer specialist support to victims, ensuring learners know where to turn for help and advice.
