The National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety is a widely recognised and popular qualification in the UK and is ideal for any individual aspiring to have a career in health and safety. Holders of this certificate can gain membership to the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH). The qualification also meets the academic requirements for Technical Membership (Tech IOSH) of IOSH.

To gain the NEBOSH General Certificate, learners must successfully complete 3 assessments, which include 2 written exams and 1 workplace assessment. Exams are 2 hours long with section 1 containing 1-long answer section and section 2 containing 10-short answer questions. ALL questions must be answered from both sections.
PLEASE NOTE: This course does not include the official exam, which will need to be purchased separately. Additionally, £220 (Inc. VAT) is charged for your official exam.
All registered learners can sit for an examination. Exams must be registered for in advance before taking each paper.
Exam Entry Confirmation
Once you are registered to do the exam, you will receive an Exam Entry Confirmation that will include the learning number and important information related to the exam and results process. Please check if your name is spelled correctly, and if changes are required, you can contact GEL customer support. This confirmation is essential to gain entry to the exam, as learners will need to produce photographic identification to the invigilator.
Standard examinations are held four times a year in March, June, September and December.

Assessment results are taken in English which also includes the practical examination. Results will be received within 50 working days from the submission of the assignment or date of the examination.

The NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety is accredited to and rated by the SQA (Scottish Qualifications Authority) Accreditation. The qualification sits in the Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF) at SCQF Level 6 with 11 SCQF credit points.
SCQF Level 6 is comparable to RQF/CQFW Level 3 in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. The SQA accreditation logo will appear where appropriate on awarded certificates.
Once learners successfully completed the National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety, learners can continue in their professional development as NEBOSH offers an array of internationally recognised qualifications. Individuals wishing to continue their education to the next level can study industry-specific applications including process safety, environmental management, construction and leadership.
