International Women’s Day Cheers to Working Women 

This International Women’s Day, the world is urged to focus on investing in women as a key to solving global challenges. Women, despite being the majority of the population, face significant barriers to equality, especially in the workforce. 

The global gender gap in work 

While women make up more than half the world’s population, their participation in the workforce has declined since 1990. Education is a bright spot, with women now slightly outpacing men in college degrees. However, job satisfaction remains low, with only a quarter of working women happy in their full-time jobs. Interestingly, self-employed women report much higher satisfaction, suggesting a desire for greater control and flexibility. 

The UK labour force 

The UK shows a positive trend with an increase in employed women. However, part-time work is much more common for women than men. Sectors like healthcare and education see a particularly high concentration of female workers.
