Course Overview

Essential Asbestos Awareness for Professionals

Asbestos is considered one of the most hazardous materials ever used in construction. Despite its dangers, it remained widely used until the year 2000, and exposure continues to cause serious health conditions, including fatal diseases. Thousands of people suffer the consequences of asbestos exposure each year, making awareness and proper training essential. The Control of Asbestos Regulations (CAR) apply to employers, employees, self-employed individuals, and duty holders ensuring all work involving asbestos-containing materials is conducted safely. Under Regulation 10, employers must provide adequate training and information to employees who may come into contact with asbestos including maintenance workers and others at risk of disturbing it.

The Asbestos Awareness for Architects and Designers course provides essential knowledge on identifying asbestos-containing materials, understanding their historical usage, and implementing safety measures to minimise risks. In addition to covering general asbestos awareness topics, this course includes a specialised module for architects and designers, outlining their legal responsibilities when working with buildings that may contain asbestos. Understanding the risks and relevant legislation enables professionals to take the necessary precautions to prevent asbestos exposure and meet compliance according to health and safety regulations.
