Overview

The British Sign Language – Level 1 (BSL) is a perfect course to help learners recognise and use finger spelling techniques. The BSL covers a wide range of topics that involves everyday language used to help deaf people improve basic skills and live confidently.

BSL is a visual-gestural language, with its own grammar and principles, which are completely different from the grammatical structure of English.

British Sign Language – Level 1 is designed according to the UK’s Occupational Language Standards 2010. The course covers BSL basics, conversational BSL, and communicating using BSL in everyday life. Learners can meet, greet and perform basic communication tasks while meeting other people. At the end of the course, learners can communicate a range of directions and mingle with unfamiliar people without hesitation.

The course will:

  • Assist the learner to initiate and conclude basic conversations with BSL.
  • Prepare the learner to practice a range of vocabulary using BSL.
  • Help learners to become proficient in BSL.
